DR NIEL DU PLOOY
Dr. Niel du Plooy is a Specialist Physician based in Cape Town with a passion for managing complex medical cases, particularly in ICU and critical care settings. Born and raised in Hartbeespoort, he began his medical journey as a Pharmacist Assistant at Virtual Care Pharmacy in Pretoria before working as a Phlebotomist at Lancet Laboratories.
In 2011, he graduated cum laude with an MBChB from the University of Pretoria and completed his internship at Dr. George Mukhari Hospital in Pretoria. His community service followed in the Western Cape, where he served as a Medical Officer at Lotus River Day Hospital, Gustrouw Day Hospital, and Helderberg Hospital.
Dr. Du Plooy pursued specialist training at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town, earning his Fellowship of the College of Physicians (CMSA) in 2019, along with a Master of Medicine (MMed) degree, also with distinction, from the University of Cape Town.
Initially establishing a private practice in Port Elizabeth, where he focused on diabetes, hypertension, and obesity-related conditions, Dr. Du Plooy later relocated to Cape Town, where he now practices at Mediclinic Cape Town. While he remains intrigued by data science and machine learning in clinical medicine, his primary focus is on acute and critical care management.
